Maize is an important crop of the Punjab province which is sown over 1.6 million acres of land in the province and last year the province achieved a production of 4.02 million tons. It comes to 82 percent of the total national produce. Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) spokesman said here on Friday that sowing and harvesting of spring crop of maize is easier and it is more profitable too. It advised the growers to prefer sowing of hybrid seed of corn for spring crop and should complete sowing from mid January to end of February while in Rawalpindi division it should be completed from end of February to March 20.
